Recent NBA Trading Card Releases

The 2013-14 NBA season began just a few weeks ago with 4 new 2013-14 hobby products released to date, namely 2013-14 Panini NBA Hoops, 2013-14 Panini Prestige, 2013-14 Panini Totally Certified and 2013-14 Panini Timeless Treasures. Panini and Upper Deck in this time also released the last of its 2012-13 NBA product.

2012-13 Panini Immaculate was finally released in November and was well received by the collecting community. Collectors still love high end basketball releases and presales of this product were strong once again, with many retailers selling out of the product weeks prior to the release date. Panini engaged collectors in the months leading up to the release date with previews of some of the higher end cards in the set, including the sought-after logoman booklet cards, each complete with 6 logomen patches on each card.

For the new 2013-14 NBA trading card sets, 2013-14 Panini NBA Hoops was the first to be released and is a set collector’s delight. Each jumbo box contains 10 packs, with 50 cards in each. This product features the first autographed cards of the 2013 rookie draft class with each jumbo box yielding 2 autographs, 1 memorabilia card as well as 50 parallels. Sought after cards in this set include Kobe’s All Rookie Team and Highlights.

2013-14 Panini Prestige was also released in November and each hobby box contains 24 packs with 8 cards per pack. On average, each hobby box contains two autographs, two memorabilia cards, two bonus Shots Silver, and 18 other inserts. Playmakers cards were the chase cards in this product, with 1 Playmakers card being found per case. Other collectable subsets include Prestigious Premieres, Bonus Shots Autographs, Distinctive Ink, NBA Materials and Franchise Favorites.

The most recent basketball product released starring the latest crop of rookies was 2013-14 Panini Totally Certified. Each hobby box contains 6 packs with 5 cards per pack. On average, each box contains 3 autographs and 3 memorabilia cards. Like the previous seasons’ release of Totally Certified, the Totally Certified Green subset will be in demand as these are well sought after in the secondary market.

Upcoming NBA Trading Card Releases

As Panini have the sole license for manufacturing NBA cards, they will dominate the card release landscape towards the end of the year and into the new year. The next slated product release in 2013-14 Panini Prizm. As with the 2012-13 Panini Prizm release, this will be expected to be well collected, as each hobby box on average will contain 2 autographs and 5 prizms. The prizm cards incorporate innovative printing technology which results in some aesthetically-pleasing cards for collectors. This is expected to be released on 26 December 2013, with each hobby box consisting of 20 cards and 6 cards per pack.
