Australia’s Premier Collectables Show – Sunday 31st August 2014

For those of you in Sydney, the next Australia’s Premier Collectables Show is on Sunday 31st August 2014 starting at 9am and finishing at 3pm. This is a place where collectors can meet in person, trade and purchase NBA hobby boxes, packs and supplies. DGCollectables along with other sports and non-sports collectors/dealers will be actively participating at this upcoming show.

The next one is to be held at Penrith Pavilion next to the Penrith Panther’s Club. This venue is situated in Sydney’s west at Mulgoa Road, Penrith NSW 2750. Public transport is available from Penrith Train Station, which is positioned only a short drive to the venue. There is also plenty of free onsite parking. This promises to be a collector’s delight. We hope to see you there and remember to bring along your tradelists and trade bait.

Recent NBA Trading Card Releases

Since our last newsletter in January 2014, there has only been one NBA card release being 2013-14 Panini Gold Standard Basketball.
The latest reincarnation of Gold Standard Basketball hit the shelves on the 19th February 2014 and this was eagerly anticipated by the NBA card collecting crowd. This product is packed with hits, which include solid gold and metal cards as well as autographs of exciting rookies and sought-after veterans. Each hobby box of 2013-14 Panini Gold Standard Basketball comprises 1 pack, with 10 cards per pack. Each hobby box contains on average 4 autograph cards and 1 memorabilia card. Gold Standard has a 275 card set, which will appeal to set collectors. There are also 8 autograph and 3 memorabilia insert sets, as well as 90 metal cards and 50 solid gold cards. This popular and well-designed mid-end product is likely to sell well in the primary and secondary trading card markets throughout the 2013-14 NBA season.
Upcoming NBA Trading Card Releases

Panini is scheduled to release a new set in the form of 2013-14 Panini Titanium Basketball towards the end of the first week of March 2014. Hobby boxes of this product appear to be similar in configuration to Panini’s Totally Certified and Upper Deck’s old Trilogy set from the mid 2000’s. However, this appears to be more of a low to mid end product targeting value-for-money box busters seeking more hits than base cards. Each hobby box will encompass 5 packs, with 4 cards per pack. On average, each hobby box will yield 2 autographs and 3 memorabilia cards. It will be interesting to see how this set is received by the collecting community, with a total of almost 13,000 on-card autographs, almost 5,000 prime/laundry tag memorabilia cards and around 750 serially numbered one of one cards. This product is loaded with hits; however, the sheer volume of hits may keep secondary market prices of individual cards relatively low. However, with this product, Panini is attempting to right the wrongs of the NBA trading card past by making on card autographs and other hits more accessible to the average collector as these types of hits were primarily the domain of higher end sets and of those with deeper pockets.
