Just a reminder for those of you in Sydney, Collectormania is on Sunday 27 October 2013 starting at 9am and finishing at 3pm. This is a place where collectors can meet in person, trade and purchase NBA hobby boxes, packs and supplies. DGCollectables along with other sports and non-sports collectors/dealers will be actively participating at this upcoming show.
The next one is to be held on Sunday 27 October 2013 at Penrith Exhibition Marquee. This venue is situated in Sydney’s west at Mulgoa Road, Penrith NSW 2750. Public transport is available from Penrith Train Station, which is positioned only a short drive to the venue. There is also plenty of free onsite parking. This promises to be a collector’s delight. We hope to see you there and remember to bring along your trade lists and trade bait.
Recent NBA Trading Card Releases
As touched on in the previous issue, Panini continues to release 2012-13 products, even with the 2013-14 season only a few months away. In the month of September, Panini Innovation and Panini Intrigue were released.
2012-13 Panini Innovation is a mid-range product and on average, each hobby box will contain three autograph or memorabilia cards as well as One Rookie View Rookie Card. There is a 200-card base set consisting of 100 base cards, 25 View cards, and 75 Rookie View cards.
2012-13 Panini Intrigue is also a mid to higher end product with 1 pack per box, 6 cards per pack as well as 1 five-card Intriguing Pack. Each hobby box, on average comprises three autographs and one memorabilia card. The Intriguing Player Packs feature only the game’s 20 top players, with ten different versions of each to deliver diversity, the thrill of the chase and maximum value. There are a total of 200 cards in this unique Intriguing player checklist. Each card utilises state-of-the-art technology with custom foil etches for 3D feel.
Upcoming NBA Trading Card Releases
Panini is planning to release more 2012-13 NBA basketball trading card sets this year focusing on high end collectors including 2012-13 Panini Flawless and 2012-13 Panini Immaculate.
2012-13 Panini Flawless will be live 9 October 2013 and each hobby box comprises 7 autographs, 2 jumbo patches and 1 base card. Every base card is numbered to 20 and has a real piece of diamond in it. Emerald base card parallels are numbered to 5 with a real piece of emerald in it. Every autograph is numbered to 25 or less. In this set, Panini worked out a deal with Leaf to have the only on-card Damian Lillard RC Autographs in an NBA uniform. This is a new super high end product and caters for those collectors seeking autographs and patches of only the superstars of today’s game. Previous high end sets such as Upper Deck Exquisite and Panini National Treasures have been popular with demand exceeding supply, however, have not carried such a hefty price tag that Panini Flawless does, so it will be interesting to see how this product is accepted by collectors. If this product does not meet expectations, expect significant price drops in boxes and cases a few weeks after the release date.
2012-13 Panini Immaculate is a new high end product releasing on 30 October 2013. Each box will contain 1 auto rookie patch numbered 99 or less, 1 autograph or auto patch card, 1 memorabilia card, 1 additional memorabilia or autograph card, 1 regular card numbered to 99 and 1 additional card. Initial release photos of some of the cards in the set by Panini have had collectors talking with the first ever offering of six NBA Logoman booklet cards all numbered 1-of-1 as well as player worn hat cards. It was thought that high end basketball sets with licensed NBA players was confined to the relatively recent release of 2012-13 Panini National Treasures, however, Panini are looking to supplement this with a set very reminiscent of Upper Deck Ultimate Collection from years gone past. This should be well received by collectors based on initial feedback to Panini.
